The Forgotton Logging Camp on Powell Lake British Columbia
Years ago when we lived on Powell Lake I used to venture through its waters, somethings I did manage to go see, some I never could find, the Forgotton Logging Camp on Powell Lake is one I could never find. Over time I still can not say for certain that the logging camp actually exists or not and the stories I listened to all came from old time retired loggers of the 70’s who logged the area’s around Powell River and the Sunshine Coast since 1930’s.
The story always has a normallity to it, some company wanted to come to log here, so they got the timber licenses and located their campbase. The barged in all the equipement, set up a small starter camp, then just as quick, disappeared. Once or twice I talked to a person who has seen this camp, usually they are walking through it on a trapping spur, or a hunting trip, but they each always say the same thing. They were walking, watching for animal signs and suddenly they come across a row of vehicles just sitting in the bush. They describe these as logging vehicles, a few logging trucks, a firetruck of the 1940’s, a few other pieces of logging equipement, and a couple small trucks, all in a perfect row. They look around and dont really see how they got the vehicles in there, they figure they are about 2 miles from Powell Lake, between the Hole in the Wall and Olson’s Landing, none of course ever have a camera and none of course ever find them again.
