This story I heard recently, a friend of mine, Doug McGregor told me a story of when he used to log and boat on Nanton Lake. As I recall the story and I sure hope Doug will correct me if I am wrong, but Nanton Lake, back in the 1950’s and 1960’s used to be about 8 feet higher, so the lake was larger and deeper. Well Doug used to sometimes take his boat up the river to the left of the boat launch at the campsite and on the trip up, they used to see what they have always thought to be a loco in the riverbed just prior to the old tresle that crossed that river. So far I have not located the tresle or the loco, but I am certainly searching for it.

i’m not sure if you are still searching for the trestle, but i think i found the posts where it used to be. i had been told it went “across the water” at one section of the lake. my daughter and i were there yesterday, the water level was VERY low, and we found alot of perfectly lined stumps on the beach just past the last campsite. i hadn’t heard there was still a loco there or i would have looked for it. lol. i’m a photographer always looking for unusual things, and that would have been perfect. lol. if you have found it, or would like to see my photos, please feel free to e-mail me. 🙂

Take a boat just out along the line of stumps, and about 100 ft from shore you will find an overturned steam log loader in the water, when the water is very low you will see it above the water, but no I havent found the Loco in Nanton as of yet.
