Taylor Way – Mud Lake

Ah so nice to be out again in the backcountry, this weekend we decided to venture back behind Mud Lake. We started at the Cable Trail, nice history there, what most dont see is the second spur about 500 ft leaving the cable trail, although Im sure it was the Bloody Old Mens Brigade built and maintained the Taylor Way trail, this also just happens to be a old railway spur, easy walking and nice and level. The one thing particularly interesting is the width of this spur, it was a double track in some parts, so either this meant it was a work area or a transfer spot, either way it will be nice going back to see what is there. The Cable trail we found numerous railroad spikes and some 16 ft lengths of rail, Im sure we will find many artifacts of the same sort here. In this post are some pictures of the spur in various locations and one set of rail, being short more than likely was a location of a derailment, and with broken pieces where spikes held it in place gives one a sense of history.
