Just to start here, these Steam Donkey’s have been well known to the area residence, its sad to see them just sitting there slowly rotting away, when its part of a Proud History of Powell River. I first went to see these Steam Donkey’s in 1978 and when I did, one could easily follow the logtracks that the skidcars ran on. I followed them up the hill where I crossed the wooden tresle which was still standing back then. I ventured to the first Steam Donkey, which stood in all its glory, the woodshack was still standing and over beside it was the Cookhouse, and Bunkhouses for the day workers, the Camp was actually down in Chippewaw Bay on Powell Lake. I did take pictures, 3 rolls with my old 110 Kodak but unfortunately only 1 roll came out and the pictures on them were of the old wheels and the wooden tracks at the bottom of the bay, so I take no credt for the pictures here of the Steam Donkey, they come from John Passek of the Powell River ATV Club, and I thank him for taking these pictures and preserving a part of history.
